I've upgraded to El Capitan and when I login with the VMware all I get is a black screen. I updated my software to 3.5.2, but I'm still getting the error. How can I fix?
I am having the same problem on two separate Macs. One is a Mac mini and other the 27 inch desktop. Both experienced the exact same symptoms of black screen after upgrading to el capitan. This is the same black screen I used to get when using the horizon client without a vpn. Not sure if the two events are related or not.
When I ran the basic upgrade from Yosemite to El Capitan (Via the Mac App Store) on my late 2011 Mac Mini, I found a few issues with how El Capitan was working (slow booting was most noticeable). I also saw a black screen when logging into my Windows 7 Pro VM. I initially was using VMware Horizon View Client for Mac 3.5.0, but I upgraded to 3.5.2 and found the same black screen. I have always used a six year old 24 inch Dell LCD monitor.
I went ahead and performed a clean (Nuke and pave) installation of El Capitan on the Mac Mini and everything worked fine again, including my normal view and use of my Windows 7 Pro VM.
As a side note, I performed the basic Mac App store upgrade from Yosemite to El Capitan on my late 2013 MacBook Pro-r and everything went smoothly, including VMware Horizon Client and viewing the same VM. Besides the age of the Mac, the one other difference was that I had upgraded the VMware Horizon View client for Mac to 3.5.3 on the MacBook Pro-r, 'prior' to upgrading to El Capitan.
I didn't meet this issue on my iMac 27" and Macbook after upgraded from Yosemite to El Capitan. And there are some other issues on my side after upgraded, such as cannot launch Mac client via URI and USB services doesn't work. But these issues was gone after powered off and powered on again the Mac host.
If you have not powered off your Mac, please try it.
Thanks.
Hi there,
Check to see if the version you are starting is actually the 3.5.2 version.
Have a look in finder in the applications folder and ensure you only have one installed.
I accidentally had two installed one was "VMware Horizon" which was 3.0 ( and also in launchpad ) and the other was "VMware Horizon Client" which was 3.5.2 ( not in launchpad ).
Removed the old one and all good.
