Issue to Broker a Physical PC via View Portal

Hello folks , i have a problem on VMware View 4 . Here is my Environment :

VMware View Connection Server 4.0.1

Physical Workstation , Windows XP installed .(With Leadtek VP200 H Adapter installed) , VMware Agent 4.0.1 Installed .

And i configure this PC as a Individual Desktop .So i can see this Resource on Portal and my View Client in LAN. Then i try to connect this PC , and of course i can connect via RDP but this is not what we wanted . When i try to connect with PCoIP , then a message pop up and said "Desktop does not support this display Protocol , please contact with your system administrator ."

My question is , we can't connect to a PC broker via view portal by PCoIP? Does anyone test this before ?

Regards

Brad

Unfortunately, not yet. So here's what works today (1:m means the server

could be running multiple VMs, 1:1 means the server must be an

individual physical machine used by only a single user at a time):

Today

software client -> software server (1:m)

  • built in to VMware View 4

  • no hardware accelerated 3D since the server is an ESX VM and we have
no general purpose hardware 3D acceleration for ESX VMs today

hardware client -> software server (1:m)

  • you can purchase hardware thin clients that have the Teradici chip
built-in to do the decode in hardware

  • you might need to upgrade the firmware on the client to the version
that includes VMware View 4 support

hardware client -> hardware server (1:1)

  • you can purchase hardware host cards that accelerate the PCoIP
protocol for an individual workstation/blade machine

  • you might need to upgrade the firmware to versions that include
    VMware View 4 support

  • 3D will work if you have a real 3D graphics card in the machine
since the Teradici card hardware accelerates the output of the physical
    graphics card

Coming Soon

software client -> hardware server (1:1)

  • you can purchase hardware host cards that accelerate the PCoIP
protocol for an individual workstation/blade machine

  • you might need to upgrade the firmware to versions that include
    VMware View 4 support

  • 3D will work if you have a real 3D graphics card in the machine
since the Teradici card hardware accelerates the output of the physical
    graphics card

Future Work

hardware client -> hardware server (1:m)

software client -> hardware server (1:m)

  • Teradici has demonstrated a proof-of-concept that provide hardware
acceleration of PCoIP traffic (compression, encryption etc.) for
multiple VMs running on an ESX server.

  • I believe this was demoed using multiple PCI cards installed in the
ESX server machine with multiple compression units that can be mapped to
    different VMs.

  • There is no announced ship date for any form of this
    'hardware-PCoIP-acceleration-for-ESX' solution.

  • Also, in order to deliver a complete 3D graphics story this would
need to be coupled with some form of proper Direct3D/OpenGL support for
guest OSes running in ESX VMs and we (VMware) haven't announced anything
    that delivers that piece.

[EDIT:

Apologies, apparently I am mistaken; wponder tells me that the software

client -> hardware host card doesn't work yet. This is why you

shouldn't trust engineers I guess. It is certainly our/Teradici's

intention to support software client connecting to hardware host card,

however that did not make the View 4.0 release. Updated and filled out

more information accordingly.]

Hi Speedbmp , Thanks for your fast reply . Really helpful : )

So the Software Client => Hardware Server 1:1 is not working now . But is there any information about when will this happen ?

Actually , Hardware Client => Hardware Server 1:1 (With Teradici Host Card ) is fine for me . I just want to manage/broker those Hardware Server with view portal .

Is this called "software client" if i use Zero-thin box connect to a PC with View agent installed via view portal ?

Many thanks.

I don't work for VMware so i'm don't know about when that will happen.

I don't know sorry.

Hello Brad,

Have you followed the instructions in the TER0911004 manual ("Using

PCoIP Host Cards Brokered by VMWARE VIEW4")? This includes installing

the PCoIP Host driver software (available from Teradici) on your XP

machine.

Thanks

Ian

Hello Ian

Thanks for your reply .

Yeah i've found similar post talk about we need Host Card driver installed but Unfortunately the oem vendor didn't give us that driver . Is there anyway to download driver from Teradici ?

I'll try to receive driver from oem vendor but if there have another way to download it will be helpful.

Many Thanks .
