I have a Windows 7 application that requires that Remote Desktop Services be turned off. My understanding is that the view client and or agent requires RDP services to be turned on even if PCoIP is the default or only protocol used. I checked the VMware View docs and did not find the answer. Thanks.
I just set one of my lab desktops to Do Not allow remote connections and I was still able to connect via PCOIP without any issues.
I believe if you check the services that they are still running. If you shutdown the remote desktop services then you will not be able to get in to the virtual desktop. Thanks.
During VMware View 5 agent installation on Windows XP virtual machine template I selected "do not enable Remote Desktop..." and I can successfully connect to virtual desktops without any problem.
PS I use PCoIP as the default and the only connection protocol in Virtual Machine pool configuration.
Thank you Mark. I had not tried this yet with View 5 as this project is View 4.5 but it's good to know that there is an option to turn off the remote desktop services in View 5.
Out of pure curiosity I have ran some tests:
I configured PCoIP as default protocol and prohibited users from changing it:
I can connect to my virtual desktops without any problems.
I echo what Mark said.
Interestingly enough, when remote desktop services is enabled, only local administrators are able to connect by default. In my case, all users are either standard users or power users, so technically, they cannot RDP even if they wanted to.
I do not believe you'll have any issue turning it off in 4.x, as long as you're using PCoIP
