Instant Clone delete performance issue

Hello Community,

I have a performance issue with instant clones when copying or deleting files to an instant clone VM. As a test I installed a persistent Windows 10 VDI with Horizon Agent 7.10.3 in the same environment.

Environment:

Image: Windows 10 1909
Horizon Agent: 7.10.3
Technolgoie: Instant Clones
8x vSAN Nodes (Dedicated for VDI workload, ESXi 6.7): 40TB capacity (40% filled) All-Flash
vCenter: vSphere 6.7

Test results:

1. I/O Test with crystaldiskmark 7.0.0

The test has produced similar results. (See attachment)

2. Copy 4,500 files to VDI and delete them.

There are a huge different. The persistent VDI could delete approx. 1,800 elements/sec. The instant clone VDI could delete only 110 elememts/sec. I have made a video of it.

We work with Solidworks and therefore the performance is very poor.

Why does this behavior exist?

Best regards,
Sascah
