High View 4.6 Desktop Memory Utilization

Recently we've been working to migrate our View 4 desktops to our new View 4.6 environment.  Unfortunately, 4.6 desktops are using significantly more memory.  For example, idling View 4 desktops were using anywhere from 270 - 1024 MB.  However, within our 4.6 environment, we are seeing that the idling desktops are using almost all of their allocated memory.

Is there something that we can do to reduce the amount of memory that our idling 4.6 desktops are using?

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Hi Mhaskett,

it's possible you've vSphere 4.0 in you view 4.0 environment and vSphere 4.1 in your new view 4.6 environment.

There are some important diferences with memory compression. You can find it in the official document "What’s New in VMware vSphere 4.1 — Performance"

Is the 4.6 environment running on new hardware?   Is this memory number being taken from active or consumed memory on the guest?

Yes we have indeed migrated from ESX 4.0 to ESXi 4.1 and from View 4.0 to 4.6.

I'll be certain to take a look at the specified documentation.

Thanks!

Yes our 4.6 environment is running on new hardware.  We are monitoring host memory utilization through vCenter.

Do you have any recommendations?

Which memory counter from vCenter Performance tab did you use to determinate high memory usage?
