Hi All,
New to the forum and new to VMware. I'm an intern at my college that is looking to implement a VDI computing solution, It is my job to come up with a project plan on VDI. Thing is I've never done a project plan so this is also new to me. I have been experimenting with virtualization for well over a year now (virtualbox , vmware workstation/player , vmware converter, Proxmox VE). I've been trying to obtain as much info that I can on VMware.com (very overwelming amount of info on this site for a new comer), but getting frusterated. I am wondering if you any of guys/gals have any usefull tips for me. Is there any good reference project plans I can look at? Also I've been really overwelmed with all the differnet products VMware has to over , Vsphere , VI3, VMware View, Thinapp, etc.. I know VMware View and thinapp is going to be our main focus for this VDI project but I want to know what you guys think I should be reading up on/getting familiar with. Thanks
Hi & Welcome to the community.
Have a look at the eval guide. It shows you step by step to have a properly working virtual desktop environment. Another way is to look at the installation documentation and that all those in the table of contents would be inserted into the plan (afterall it's all that needs to be done).

You can start from View documentation:
http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/view_pubs.html
But it require also a vSphere (or VI3) knowledge to setup the infrastructure part.
Also if you have access to Partner Central there are a lot of documentation and also some intro courses.

As the others have already said one of the main things to look at is the documentation. I would also recommend making sure all of your equipment is on the VMware HCL, http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/. A lab environment setup with trial downloads would also do a lot to familiarize you with the products and may give you some detailed questions for the community. Let us know if you run into any issues.
If you prefure an aternanive medium I really recommend checking out some videos!

Trainsignal also have really good trains videos too.

Wow , you guys are awesome. Thanks for all the replies will be spending the rest of the day reading the usefull links yall recommened. I am also going to take a look at that trainsignal series since it has a lot to do with VDI. I have been on the HCL and also frequent vm-help.com , for help with working whiteboxes (for my home lab) , but right now I am just focused on the project plan then if all goes well I will need to assure all my hardware is compaitbale and all. Thanks again , great commnuity !
will post back and let you guys know how I'm doing
Glad to help out and all the best in passing your coursework.
