Hello again guys,
While testing a new printer (HP M203dw) through USB on my desktop pool, whenever I plug in this printer in, instead of presenting as a printer and asking for drivers, it shows up as a keyboard and no further configuration can be made. I am using the old virtual printing and not the new virtual printing portion of the Horizon Agent. This is a Windows 10 v1909 desktop running on Horizon View 7.12.
Hi DublChen
To send print jobs to a USB printer, you can use the USB redirection feature, or use the virtual printing feature. In case of virtual print option, you do not need printer driver on VDI as it uses thinprint driver by default. If you are utilizing thinprint for printer redirection, make sure thinprint services (TPautoconnect and TPgateway) are running on VDI you are connecting to.
You can also test with new 'VMware advanced integrated printer' option in view agent.
However if you are not utilizing thinprint or vmware advanced printing driver and using USB only device, make sure to follow Use USB Redirection to Connect USB Devices
I am still having this issue. USB redirection is enabled and working properly. I have tried a couple other printer types with success. However this HP M203 chooses to still show/present itself as a keyboard...
*sigh*
Take a look at VMware Knowledge Base and try to allow the device using its HID.
If issue still persist, engage vendor to check if the device is supported to pass-through in a virtualized environment considering other devices are working fine, there should not be any issue with horizon standpoint.
OK, after some trial and error, I figured this one out on my own(ish). Doing some digging on the 'net I found a short unanswered question about having redirection turned off/on with the Zero/Thin client itself. Opened up the settings on the Zero Client, and BAM! Printer redirection was turned off, whereas all the other redirections were turned on. This was the issue all along...
