Floating Linked Clone Pool - Without Active Directory?

I have a use case of generating a pool of desktops to a firewalled vlan that has access to the internet only.  (the needed View ports to the desktops will be allowed as well, internal only no Sec Server)

I have been trying to create a Floating Linked Clone pool of desktops that are not joined to our domain.  No matter what I chose around guest customization I can never have the desktops provision successfully. (I have the option Stop Provisioning on Error unchecked)  Assigning the full gold clone to myself and accessing it via the View client works perfect;  after I am authenticated to the Connection Server and the desktop is chosen ,I get a login screen and am able to chose the local account on the desktop.

I want these to be linked clones to enable quicker provisioning as well as security and a clean desktop each login.  (a user could really screw these up)  No profile management will be used as it is just to provide a segregated environment for web browsing.

I dont care if the computer objects are created in the directory, I just dont want the desktops to be joined to the domain.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You can create a linked clone pool and DO NOT use quick prep for customization. Instead, you can create a customization specification template in vCenter and choose "WORKGROUP". you can use the customization specification template while creating the linked clone pool.

Once the VMs are provisioned, guest customization would be carried out with the specification template inputs and it will be a part of WORKGROUP.

Try this and let me know the result.
