Domain Controller requirement for VMware View Infrastructure

I'm doing a proof of concept for VMware View. I keep reading about an Active Directory DC requirement but, I'm not entirely sure how it fits into the VDI Infrastructure topology.

What is it exactly is the DC used for?

Does it need to be a new Domain or can I utilize our existing AD infrastructure?

You can certainly use your existing domain. It is mainly needed for authentication.

it's used for the virtual desktop to be joined in, user to authenticate. if you're just doing a test/poc, i would suggest setting a new as it would not inherit any GPO policies and etc that would made the whole testing unpleasant (you may not know/forgotten what GPO policies that have being set)
