We just purchased View 4.5 and the only ESX version available for download is ESX 4.1. I would like to go with ESXi 4.1 if possible. Does VMware View 4.5 support virtual desktops on a ESXi 4.1 host?
yes, View 4.5 supports ESXi 4.1 and you can download from
....and you can get the View Components from
http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_view/4_5
in what capacity do you say it is supported? are you a vmware employee?
read the release notes
http://www.vmware.com/support/view45/doc/view45_releasenotes.html
Support for vSphere 4.1 and vCenter 4.1 - Delivers integration with the most widely-deployed desktop virtualization platform in the industry. Takes advantage of optimizations for View virtual desktops.
release notes themselves make no reference to ESXi......but i did find the following on page 12 of the vmware view upgrade guide:
Both ESX and ESXi hosts are supported.
really don't understand why it is embedded so deep within the website given that ESXi is the "future"
just as an FYI vSphere is a marketing term. vSphere4.x has three main components, ESX(i), vCenter, and the vSphere Client. ESX and ESXi are the same hypervisor.
