Hello-
I have a WYSE R50 with Linux on it that is hooked to an external DVD burner. The OS that is on the VM is Windows 7 and the user is using the built in burning application that came with Windows 7. They can drag the files that they want burned to the CD and burn the files like normal. When they go to look at the files on the CD they show Track1, Track2, etc. If I take the CD to another desktop computer and try and read the CD the data files appear on there like they should. Does anyone have any idea why the files on the CD are appearing to be audio files instead of data files? Thank you!
I'm experiencing the exact same issue in my organization.
Our environment is as follows
I have two flavors of HP thin clients running Windows XP embedded
HP-T5740
HP-T5730
I'm using View Client 4.5 and 5.0 to connect to Windows 7 virtual machines running View Agent 4.5 and 5.0 respectively.
Everything is fully patched and up to date.
The thin client can see the files on the disc perfectly fine. However, as soon as you connect the CD/DVD drive to the virtual machine via the View client, it will pass the device correctly, however, the computer will only recognize the disc as being an audio disc just as btrabue mentioned.
This only happens with certain discs, I'm wondering wheter or not this has something to do with the way the disc was burned, different burning technology or something along those lines.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
We ended up using LG external DVD drives. They have not given us the troubles that the other models were. We also had to grant the users admin rights to burn via a GPO. Hope that this helps you.
Yes, I think using an external dvd drive would do the trick. Keep us posted!

We're using only external DVD drives. The t5730s and t5740s do not have internal IDE or SATA cd/dvd drives.
The external DVD drives are HP DVD 555S and 565S
I had a little more success after upgrading the agent and view client to version 5. After I asked the technician on the phone, he hinted that with every release of the view agent/client, vmware adds more and more compatibility drivers for more equipment and so on.
It makes sense that they cant put every single driver out there in existence, so it's like a cat and mouse game.
So far it's holding up, I haven't heard my users telling me that they cant burn/view data.
