Hi all,
I have been deploying some pools from a Win XP SP3 template in VMview and have seen some strange things happening.
Please let me know where I could be going wrong to have caused these quirks:
1) If I deploy more than 1 machine in a pool, sometimes a random machine will not be joined to the domain after customization.
I have a local admin password set on the template machine, there is no SYSPREP folder on the machine before conversion to a template, I am using the latest sysprep files for Win XP SP3 and the sysprep files are in the correct location.
Does anyone know what may be causing some machines not to join the domain but others join ok?
2) When I create the pool, the template is cloned fine but then the new machines just sit at the login prompt. It doesn´t do anything and it won´t let me log in (it is in the pre-customization stage but won´t progress).
If I click on restart then the machine restarts and customization applies.
As mentioned above everything seems to be set up correctly but this can´t be normal behaviour.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Thanks in advance
Mark

Network not enabled at the time the VM is started, most likely.

Scanned your VM's for registry problems lately? Might be a good time.
Hello RParker,
Thank you for the fast response.
Regarding your answers:
What could cause the network to not be enabled at the time that the VM is started? Is this just a completely random thing or is there a way I can prevent this in the future?
The VM I am using for my template is only a few days old and has not been used in production. Al that I changed from the vanilla install was to add some software. I would be surprised if the VM had registry problems already but I will try.
I assume the only way to quickly check this is to install some type of Registry Check/Scan software on my VM and run it before I convert to template???
Thanks again
Mark
