To reduce the size of the VM's allocated storage space (from 40GB to 20GB), I converted a VM using VMware Converter Standalone (latest version). The conversion process completed successfully, but when I power on the VM, it hangs in a blank screen. Besides getting into the bios, the only other thing that I can do is power it off. I checked the settings, and they were fine. Before converting, I made sure there were no snapshots.
This VM will eventually be used as the base image to create the linked clone image (snapshot) for View.
Ive seen the black screen thing before and in multiple cases it was caused by the C: disk type being made into ide instead of scsi. You can verify in the edit settings which it is. If ide switch it to scsi. Either do the conversion again and verify for sure the disk type of the C: drive is scsi or you can try this kb to convert it:
http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1016192
Hope that helps

Yup. That's what I stumbled on late last night. The weird thing though is that the VM I was converting was configured to use IDE.
Thanks for the info.
