Client drive redirection registry key user folder

Has anyone had success using the HKLM\Software\VMware, Inc.\VMware TSDR\default shares\f1 and having it map to the logged in users folder?  I am trying to have it automatically map to their user folder at logon but the registry doesnt take variables like %username%

Change %username%  with %USERPROFILE%

Doesnt work either.  None of the variables work in the registry
