I have a linked clone pool of Win 7 x64. I am trying to run 3D maps from Excel 2016 but keep getting the error: Cannot initialize DirectX. Confirm that your hardware supports DirectX 10 or later...
"Enable 3D support" is UNchecked. I Checked it and it still provides the same error. Video memory is set at 35MB currently. Any help is appreciated.
There is a whole process you have to go through to install the correct hardware and drivers for 3D. If you don't have a GRID card you cant use a hardware based GPU.

So you're pretty much saying without a GPU installed separately (currently only have on-board with our cisco server), the 3D is not going to work?
Technically Speaking Yes! if you don't want to get "skipped" frames/micro-lag for less than half a second! But some people find a way around!
The key enabling technologies for these solutions are:
Graphics cards that support GPU virtualization
- NVIDIA GRID
- NVIDIA Tesla
- AMD FirePro
- Intel HD Graphics P4700
• VMware vSphere® 5.1 or later
• VMware View® 5.3 or later (now called View in VMware Horizon® 6)
• Protocols
-PCoIP
- Secure WebSocket protocol for remote display
• VMware vRealize® Operations Manager™

This is a screenshot of a dxdiag of a Windows 10 VM running off an ESXi 6.5 (which is itself a VM running under VMware Workstation).
