I am running an ESXi 6.7 Server with vCenter 6.7 and Horizon 7.8 (connection-server, composer).
I have several desktop pools with win10 (1809) clients.But Horizon 7.8 only supports up to win10 (1903).
Since my thin clients also only support Horizon 7.8, I need a solution to set up 7.12 in parallel.
Therefore my question is:
Can I set up a Horizon 7.12 (connection-server, composer) on the existing system to provide up-to-date desktop pools (win10 2004)?
Thanks
Have you seen this thread?: 2 Horizon Deployments using same vCenter
No, thanks.
but in the meantime I've come across this (it is from 2012!)
therefore, is it possible that the connection servers have different versions, or not?
The VMware View Architecture Planning Guide is clear about this architecture model:
“You can install this software service (View Composer) on a vCenter Server instance that manages virtual machines or on a separate server. … Although with View 5.1, you can install View Composer on its own server host, a View Composer service can operate with only one vCenter Server instance. Similarly, a vCenter Server instance can be associated with only one View Composer service.”
As long as you are using a composer server there is a one to one mapping:
Configure View Composer Settings
"There must be a one-to-one mapping between each View Composer service and vCenter Server instance. A View Composer service can operate with only one vCenter Server instance. A vCenter Server instance can be associated with only one View Composer service."
Hi Roderik,
that's right: 1 vCenter and 1 Composer! That's how you see it in the picture.
But on the picture you see 2 connection servers and therefore my question is, can they have different versions?
Would it be possible to access my old win10 (1809) VDI's via one connection server (7.8) and the new win10 (2004) via the other connection server (7.12) and both access the same vcenter/composer?
I guess it will work but I don't think it will be a supported scenario as you can see in this post:
Single vCenter- Multiple Horizon
Not supported but you can have connected on the same vCenter both 7.8 and 7.12 connection servers as soon as each have their own Composer server :
VCS 7.8 -> Composer 7.8 -> vCenter A
VCS 7.12 - > Composer 7.12 -> vCenter A
Now I made the test to build a template with Windows 10 2004 and Horizon Agent 7.8/Connection Server 7.8 and it works
