Boot Volumes

I am getting some solid state drives on my SAN and want to make sure that my Vm's are booting from them.  Does anyone know where I can find some documentation on this?

Thanks,

Then definately look into storage tiering in View 4.6. http://myvirtualcloud.net/?p=1137

You would like some documentation on how to make sure your VMs are booting from the SSD drives on the SAN?     Can you give us some information on how your environment is setup.  It would also be helpful to know what version of View you are using and what type of pools you have deployed.

I think you are talking about storage tiering. Have a look at this: http://myvirtualcloud.net/?p=1137

I am running View 4.6 on Fiber Channel connected to compellent SAN's.  I have a mix of all types of pools, but I am most concerened about my linked clones as they are floating pools I want to ensure users are recieving the most optimized performance on the presentation of the desktop.

Yes, definitely check out the site that has been linked.  Andre has a really nice write up on how View's storage tiering works and what is involved in setting it up.   On a high level you will want to create a SSD datastore and modify your pool store your replicas on that datastore.      We have been doing it for awhile and it works great.

Great info, thanks!  One more question when creating new pools how do you ensure that your replica's are landing on the SSD?  Do they just land where ever your golden image is located?

You would need to edit the pool settings and configure the replica datastore.

In your pool settings when you get to storage you will have an option for where to store the replica. For the replica file select the data store that is located on your SSD drive. Yes, SSD definately rocks! You will be amazed at the performance. At least I was! Smiley Happy
