Blast Extreme port sharing over TCP

Hi all,

In this blog it states that:

Port sharing over TCP: Requires opening only one port on the front-end firewall when TCP port sharing is used with Access Point

http://blogs.vmware.com/euc/2016/10/vmware-horizon-7-view-blast-extreme-display-protocol.html

When using blast extreme protocol, it is possible to use only port 443 in combination with access point 2.5. It is supported/possible as well with newer versions of Access Point ?

In that case why is needed port TCP/UDP 8443, it is showed on that blog.

Thank you.

It's fine with just TCP 443. Also, if you want to use PCoIP, then you must also open TCP and UDP 4172.

Can you also respond to the answer to your earlier question you asked on November 7th. It helps others.

With Access Point (2.7.2) you can run Blast Extreme from the clients on either 8443 or 443.

Look at Using PowerShell to Deploy VMware Access Point and search for blastExternalUrl.

It gives an example of this setting in your .INI file as follows:

blastExternalUrl=https://ap1.horizon.myco.com:443

This will result in the client connecting Blast on TCP port 443.

If you have a load balancer in front of multiple Access Point appliances, you can follow the setup instructions here  Load Balancing with VMware Access Point

Hi Mark,

ok, and is there any caveats using just TCP 443 ? Does it have the same functionality/performance ?

In this document Load Balancing with VMware Access PointLoad Balancing with VMware Access Point, it is mentioned:

Blast Extreme display protocol (TCP 443 and UDP 443)

Is it still needed opening UDP 443 on external firewall ?

Thank you
