Black screen using snipping tool

Hi all

We've just migrated some desktop from w7 to windows 2008r2. Some users have got problem with snipping tool, when users capture the screen the desktop goes black and the only solution is reset or restart it from a remote host.

Our infrastructure is

vSphere 5.5

Horinzon view 6.0.1

Desktop Windows 2008r2 sp1

Some advice?

thanks

Matteo

Probably not going to be a helpful reply this but we get a very similar issue.

The VMware Horizon view agent causes the snipping tool to crash but, seemingly, only when the snipping tool is used over an IE window and only the first time following a reboot. If you use the snipping tool on another window that is not IE (version irrelevant) then use it on IE it's fine. When the snipping tool crashes it can actually crash windows and requires the VM be reset.

If I uninstall the agent, the problem goes away.

Anyone else seen this before, any ideas?

Same issue experienced here. Currently have a ticket open with VMware support.

Windows 7 32-bit, with agent version 6.0.1. The issues happens from the master VM before its been pushed out (accessing through vSphere client). Can uninstall agent and issue goes away, reinstall and it comes back. Have tried with 3D enabled and disabled.

Additional information: This only happens with agent version 6.x. Have testing with Agent version 5.3 and this does not occur.

Hi,

does anyone have a solution for this issue?

We have exactly the same behavior here, but I wonder if updating to View Horizon Agent 6.0.2 will fix this, did someone tried this already?

Regards

Stephan

Hello,

I have the same problem, we are using the newest agent 6.0.2.

Same problem. But only sometimes.

I've also opened a case at vmware.

Additional Information:

The ticket at VMware is still open. They can reproduce the problem with IE and Snipping Tool. Then the desktop freezes. After a disconnect/reconnect > Black Screen.

I will keep you informed.

Hello,

I think the newest view agent v6 is definitly corrupted.

I installed the 5.3.3 agent and the snipping tool works perfect.

Have a nice day.

Alexander

I had the same problem on Windows 7 and snipping tool. But only when snipping from IE11.

This was not an issue with the agent.

There is a setting in Snipping tool the includes the URL when you save snip as html.

disable it and you will not have anymore problems.

Create a GPO and add the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\TabletPC\Snipping Tool = DisplayURL dword = 0

Had the same problem - snipping tool on IE crashes.

Registry setting solved the problem!
