Black Screen When I Try to Load VDI

My company is going to virtual desktops shortly.  As a test they had me load vdi on my laptop. VDI does not work ( I get the black screen when I login and then the message "The connection to the remote computer ended.") when I am in the office and trying to use it on my laptop but it works fine for me at home (I can see my work sesktop and move around).  I have Windows 8 installed on my laptop and have installed the latest verions of the vdi program.  Is this a problem with my laptop or the company's?  What can I do to fix this problem?

Welcome to the community!

There can be several reasons for a black screen. Which protocoll are you using (PCoIP or RDP) to connect to your virtual desktop?

I would guess that this could be related to firewall settings in your case, but check out and go through this KB: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1028332

Hi,

what is version of VMware view ,  ESXi  and vcenter server ? Are you setting it up for fist time. Are you able to access it over RDP or PCOIP. If you access VDI from windows 7 machine is it successful ?

Usually in this case when it works from home it will do so because it's going through the security servers. At work, you're connecting through the connection servers and there's a handoff of the connection from the connection server directly to the View desktop. Check to make sure that the correct ports from the client's network to the View desktop are open.  The ports are listed in the View architecture guide located here:

http://pubs.vmware.com/view-51/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/view-51-architecture-planning.pdf

Essentially, it means that 4172tcp/udp for PCOIP, 4927tcp for MMR, 3389tcp for RDP, and 32111tcp USB, must be open so that hosts on your client networks (soft clients, zero clients, etc) can access VDI desktops using thes ports.
