Automated install of the View agent on physical Desktops

Hi!

Has anyone tried to install the View agent via Altiris or some other deployment method to physical desktops?

I registered a case with Vmware about this and it seems that doing that is nothing they support.

After about 20 conversations with the support we came up with the following Command line switches: VDM_SERVER_NAME=vdi.domainname.local VDM_SERVER_USERNAME=domainname\useraccount VDM_SERVER_PASSWORD=xxxxxx RDPCHOICE=0 /q

It registers with the View server, but when i try to create a "Individual desktop" in view manager 4.0 the state of the "Desktop Source" reads "configuration error"

We want our users to be able to chose from their physical Desktop or a VDI desktop when they are in a conference room and logging on to view from a Wyse thin client.

We don't want to manually install the view agent on hundreds of desktops.

Hope that someone out there has the answer to this.

/Kristian

I don't use View with physical desktops, but I wanted to give you some more leads, in case you were still looking for some information.

The View 4.5 Admin Guide (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/view45_admin_guide.pdf), starting on page 50, gives a lot of information on command line install options, etc. It may give you some help.

I assume from your post that if you install the agent manually that everything works just fine, so it is something with using the command line options? I also assume you reboot the machine after doing the automated install?

Thanks for the info. I looked in the old documentation for 4.01 ( http://www.vmware.com/pdf/view401_admin_guide.pdf ) and in that documentation the "Install View Agent Silently" isn't mentioned.

Yes you are correct. When i install it manually everything works fine.

As soon as i have tried this i will post if it was a success or not.
