Applying updates to server components

Hi,

What are the considerations to take when applying MS Updates and restarting the server components of View (ie; View Connection Server, vCenter)? Is there a proper order to follow? I have never come across any documentation on this.

Bascially, I have replica connection servers and 1 vcenter server. If you were to restart the connection servers and/or vcenter while the users are connected via thin/zero clients, will it disconnect their sessions?

I understand if all connection servers are restarting, new connections wont be able to be made.

Mike

If you are tunneling the connection then yes the users will be disconnected.  If not then users wont' be affected (other than new users won't be able to log in to that VCS).

If you have multiple VCS it depends on how you load balance.  Best case, you can reboot one VCS at a time and no one will notice, worse case only a percentage would notice (but only if they are logging in during the reboot).

thanks for the quick reply Gunnar.

By tunnel, do you mean in the Connection Server settings, where the checkbox is "Use Secure Tunnel connection to desktop"?

I do not have that checked, but always wondered if I should. I'm not allowing connections from outside my internal network directly to the connection server and right now, we are not even using a security server.

btw like the articles you publish on your blog. I'm getting ready to setup autoconfig for my management console

I wouldn't bother checking it, the session is secure whether or not its tunneled so I never liked how it comes off as "checking this box secures the connect".  Checking the box just tunnels it, you really only need to tunnel external connections or NAT'd internal connections, if it works unchecked, I woudln't mess with it.
