After deployment Workstations not ready to use but VDI allows logons

We have configured VDI with a non-persistant pool, working quite nicely, however we have a couple of little problems someone may be able to help us out with, if its at all possible,

Our workstation build / software install process has a lot of scripting at the join AD part that we cant really controlled (a managed service for us unfortunately) so our templates are configured as basic windows xp machines that are ready on reboot to start the AD join scripts, and then to start allocating all the software we have on a workstation though a 3rd party msi and exe installer.

The upshot of all that is, when we deploy a template it starts our worksation comission process and takes around 2-3 hours before all software is loaded and the desktop is ready for use. Not a huge problem as we can just make sure the pool of available machines is set high enough to compensate for the long build process.

The problem is that, while it is installing software, it has already been deployed by VDI as a valid desktop for the non-persistant pool.

The question this all boils down to is there a way to delay VDI making a newly deployed desktop available to users? Its pretty much a fixed time we need to have it wait, but I've found nowhere I can set up a config like this,

The other issue is if we want to use the power down function of a pool, it will power down a newly deployed template while its in the middle of installing software, if the available pool increases to not need the newly deployed machine, can the time before idle shutdown be increased with VDI?

Thanks.

There is not a fixed time you can set to wait. But there is an option for you to disable the desktop. Once your provisioning is complete you will need to manually reenable the desktop. The disable mode will prevent the connections.

Thanks WP,

I was hoping we might be able to use the automated expansion of the pools in VDI, but looks like we will have to just create a fixed number of Clients and then enable those when they are done!
