100 desktop virtulization

HI

WE HAVE 100 PCs in office with Windows XP ,msoffice ,acrobat reader , internet ,standard utility .we want to implementation desktop virtulization.we like to use these desktop but do not want them managed independently. has anybody has experience of converting 100 PCs TO VIRTUAL DESKTOP .

If you are referring to P2V I would recommend against for the desktop. I would build a parent or master image with all the apps installed and configured and then use a broker (VMware View) to clone the desktops as needed by using templates or linked clones. This way you only have to setup the image once and deploy to many.

your best bet would be to create a new image with just the applications you require, then use linked clones to build this to the 100 guest level. I would not bother doing a P2V process on the current desktop deployment. also remember that the remote display protocol is RDP and as such is not optimised for heavy graphics or GPU intensive processes, so things like CAD stations would not be a good fit for VDI.

Further remember that you would also need a ESX infractructure (this is provided with the View licenses if needed - however there is a license limitation that precludes the running of Server Based VM's (exception being the Conection Broker and Security Server)).
