VMware Horizon Cloud Next-Gen Pool Management

We are running VMware Horizon Cloud Next-Gen. I can see there are a few bugs since its still in early stage, but I am still trying to find how a pool can be reimaged. E. g. I already have a pool and I want to do a recompose/push image operation like we do for Horizon On-Premises. I know we can create an image version, make the changes, add the marker and edit the pool to point to the new marker and its supposed to reimage the desktops. But what if there are are active connections? What if there are entitlements? Do we need to unentitle the users to complete the new image change? I tried this and I don't see any changes going into the desktops after editing the pool.

The Techzone articles has ton of info about the overall architecture, but the official documentation as usual sucks and I couldn't find anything useful about the above.

Hi Jubish,

Thanks for your question - we will work to improve the documentation on this.   The Horizon Cloud Service works a little different from Horizon on Prem.  Pools are pointed to specific image objects using the Image/Marker mapping.   That means when its time to update a pool, all you really need to do is ensure your target image version is published (to same locations as current source versions), and once that's done, you move the marker by using the Image -> Versions [edit] command. on the target version you want the marker applied to.

depending on the pool type - you will get different actions.

Floating pools will begin the update process as users log off and desktops/server sessions drain.

Dedicated pools will only use the newly pointed version for new VMs.

If you are seeing different behavior for either pool type, please submit a support ticket so we can take a look at your environment.

Thanks,

The HCS Team.

Hi David,

Happy to see your comment, I was with VMware EUC for for 13 years and we have worked together on a few projects like Enzo and early Horizon Cloud (Desktone days).

Thanks for the response and happy to hear that the docs and getting improved. For the dedicated/persistent desktops, is there a way we can do the reimaging for the existing desktops? I guess we need to un-entitle the users? This is annoying and something which we should improve. Thoughts?
