Microsoft SQL FCI with shared physical RDM and migration by HCX to AVS + physical SCSI controller

Hello.

How is possible to migrate VMs (2 node Microsoft clusters) with physical RDM and SCSI Controller with Bus Sharing "physical" by HCX ?  ( looks like this is not supported ?)

I found some potential described method  but used there Hybrid Linked Mode which in Azure VMware Solution not used.

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Cloud-on-AWS/solutions/VMware-Cloud-on-AWS.919a954a9b6ca17cdc719ec...

Some alternative tools or methods for migration of that kind of configuration ? The best with low downtime how possible.

For now what i see  is only possible cold migrations ? after reconfigure first RDM to virtual mode or convert to virtual mode http://www.vmwarearena.com/convert-rdm-to-vmdk/ but still not sure how to decrease downtime.

Some experiences 🙂 ?

Hi,

Migration of Physical RDM is not supported, that is for sure, for all migrations types. Regardless if is HCX or a "normal" vCenter vMotion.

For there are two options.

1 - On destination, create a new SQL server and migrate Data/DB.
2 - Convert it to VMDK.

Using VMware converter or not, you will always have downtime on that SQL server.
