We are implementing HCX as part of a VMC on AWS implementation. We see in the documentation that vSphere Standard Switches are supported for the Management Interface for the HCX VMs. When installing HCX on-prem we don't see any Standard Switch Port Groups to select. We also don't see any Standard Switch Port Groups when configuring the VMotion Network Profile. Can someone explain why we don't see any Standard Switch Port Groups?
Are you using webclient or H5 client ? please try with webclient and check if it populates the port groups info, also ensure vCenter details has been given properly in the wizard.
This was done with the webclient. Also, we can't see port groups on the VMs that are on the VSS after they are built. We only see the VDS port groups.
We have HCX running in our setup with standard and vDS switches. You can only see the network portgroups if you have provisioned the compute profile on the cluster with whatever switch you wish to use.
Hi tgrayatshi,
Can you confirm the version of HCX you're running? This feature was first introduced in HCX R112.
Hi Nick,
The problem has turned out to be that HCX only supports Standard vSwitches when they are using a VLAN with the vmkernel and the vMotion port group. Our traffic is untagged, so it still doesn't work. The customer is looking at migrating to VLAN tagged traffic for the vMotion traffic, but has not implemented it yet.
Hi tgrayatshi,
There is a dedicated HCX place in VMTN.
Did you ever work through the issue? Using vMotion VSS PGs for the vMotion Network Profile is supported. The documentation entry you mentioned (about VSS Management). That capability came later. Support for VSS vMotion networks existed prior to the RN's existence, that's why it's not specifically mentioned.
