Support for APFS snapshots of VMs?

instead of traditional VMware snapshots, could Fusion be enhanced to use native APFS snapshots instead? Fusion would no longer have to “roll its own” snapshots.

Also, having fewer files visible in the VMs bundles means that people wouldn’t get into trouble by removing what they think are extra files in a VM bundle, only to find out they’ve broken the VM.

Just to chime in with my opinion, under normal circumstances I believe there is a need to maintain compatibility with existing vmware infrastructure, for example to be able to export / import a vm created in fusion to an esxi server, etc.

At the moment, maintaining compatibility between hypervisors isn't as much of an issue for armr64.  However if arm continues to gain market share among servers, I predict a version of esxi for arm processors may be a reality in the future, not to mention an arm64 version of vmware workstation for windows.  As such, it would be prudent to go with a widely compatible filetype and avoid any proprietary vendor specific features / functions.
