Virtio. Virtual device support

Apple is providing virtio host implementations for many virtual devices in macOS Monterey and beyond. Most modern Linux distributions and yes, even macOS on Apple Silicon support virtio devices.

VMware should break out of its ESX centric thinking and provide virtio device support taking advantage of Apple’s work in this space.

in addition, it would be nice if VMware’s rich capabilities for virtual disk configurations could be made available via virtio, rather than a proprietary paravirtualized (ESXi centric thinking once again) disk or emulated SCSI/IDE/SATA/NVMe adapters.

I understand ESXi brings much to Fusion.  But other times ESXi thinking stands in the way of very useful Mac-centric enhancements. And, if you poll your users, strict ESXi compatibility is not as important as you think for Fusion.

Sorry, but autocorrect struck again. The title of this request should read “virtio virtual device support”.
