VMware Fusion for apple silicon "File not Found"

Hello,

I am trying to run the recently released VMware Fusion Public Tech Preview 21H1, (downloaded here: https://customerconnect.vmware.com/downloads/get-download?downloadGroup=FUS-PUBTP-2021H1). However after installing I get a "file not found" error message and am unable to do anything in the program. I have a licensed copy of VMware Fusion Pro but need the update for M1 macs.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I've also read here: https://communities.vmware.com/t5/Fusion-for-Apple-Silicon-Tech/Vmware-Fusion-M1-File-not-found-erro...and tried troubleshooting by deleting the old virtual machine folder.

However when I try to import one I get a "Could not probe: failed to launch helper process" error

Hey,

File not found was because probably you had some older x86 VM set to Auto launch of Fusion which you trying to run on M1. Using Fusion, Intel Macs can only run x86-based OS and M1 Macs can only run ARM-based OS with Fusion.

You will have to build new VMs which can run on M1 (ARM). Please try a create a new VM and let us know how it goes.

Follow the testing guide from here: Tech Preview Testing Guide

Thanks for your reply. I was able to run the program and create a new VM so I believe that I'm installed correctly.

I am trying to import a .ova file for a college course I'm taking. This is new to me (have never used virtual machines before and this is an introductory computer science course). The ova vile is an Ubuntu VM, but if it was created on x86 will it still not work?

That's correct.  There is no way to run an intel based virtual machine on an M1 mac.  You would have to build a fresh ubuntu install from scratch.
