I use VoiceOver on an M2 MacBook Air and have been using a Windows 11 VM with the production version of VMware Fusion. When I ran the tech preview and started the VM with VoiceOver running, Fusion crashed. When I ran it without VoiceOver running (using sighted assistance), I was prompted to update the encryption and to update the virtual machine, after which Windows started normally. This problem has occurred in the last several versions of VMware Fusion. I hope it can be fixed before the next production release.
@Woodyanna Request you to share the application which you are using for voiceover assistance on your M2 machine.
Hello. The application is called VoiceOver. It's the screen reader built into the Mac. You can turn it on or off with Command-F5.
On my Macbook pro M2 with Ventura 13.4.1,
1) Installed VMware Fusion 13.0.2 and created Win 11 VM.
2) Enabled Voice Over from System Settings->Accessibility->VoiceOver.
3) Powered on the VM with VoiceOver enabled,VM got powered on, no issues seen.
4) Installed VMware Fusion tech Preview.
5) Powered on above Win 11 VM with VoiceOver running, clicked No on Encryption upgrade Popup,VM got powered on, no issues seen.
6) Powered off the VM.
7) Powered on above Win 11 VM with VoiceOver running, clicked Yes on Encryption upgrade and Hardware upgrade Popup,VM got powered on, no issues seen.
If possible can you reproduce the issue on your machine again and share the logs and support bundle here.
You can get the support bundle from Fusion menu : Help->Collect Support Information->Quick.
You can get the logs using below->
(a) Go to Apple menu: Go->Go to Folder.
(b) Type this in the search box: /Users/<RespectiveUsername>/Library/Logs/VMware Fusion and hit enter
(c) Collect all the vmware-vmfusion and fusion.log and you can attach the same here.
Hello DhairyaT. Thanks so much for your detailed efforts to reproduce my problem. I'm surprised everything worked normally for you, since I've had the problem on two different machines, one Intel and one Apple Silicon, when needing to upgrade virtual machines over the course of a couple of years. I had to build my Apple Silicon Mac software from scratch, so I have had the problem on two really separate machines. I attached the files you requested. There may be some log files from my production VMware Fusion app as well, but I thought it was better to include files you don't need than to leave out something you do need. I gathered the logs right after I tried to start my virtual machine in the tech preview with VoiceOver running and VMware Fusion crashed.
@Woodyanna Thanks for the logs.
Raised a ticket internally- #3254837. Relevant team will look into it.
Thanks very much.
@Woodyanna As per the logs you shared, it seems you saw the issue in older Build of Fusion 13.0.2. Request you to check again on the latest tech Preview build of Fusion and in case the Issue is happening please capture the same logs as I highlighted in my previous comment and share those here.
