Hi,
We are in process of migrating applications and servers from traditional physical server to VMware virtual environment containing vcenter, vspher4.1 and san using P2V process. I am bit confused about cloud vs. virtualization. How could we call this we are moving towards virtualization or towards cloud?
We will be implementing desktop virtualization in near future; again does this fall in to virtualization, cloud or towards cloud?
Thanks
Virtualization would be the base of cloud. Based on the below the view would be under cloud. That's the simplest way to explain.
Virtualisation is a key step in the move towards Cloud. Without a base environment that can dynamically provide additional workload and services on demand, and have all the background management and charging controls, you are not going to get very far with Cloud.
There are many companies providing Cloud solutions. All of which use a controlled implementation of virtualisation as the underpinning to a Cloud infrastructure.
Se companies like: VMware, Savvis, IBM etc. for cloud and virtualisation offerings.
Cloud = Automated Outsourcing (or Hosting).
Initially I think you are moving to virtualization but as posted virtualization can be a building block for what is being called cloud computing.
