vSwitch config for mixed 10G and 1G environment

I have a single 10G Ethernet and four 1G Ethernet conenctions going to each of my ESXi servers. Can (should) I have mixed 10G and 1G pNICs on the same vSwitch or should they be on separate vSwitches? I would like to use the 1G connections as failover for the single 10G connection if possible.

TIA,

Julian.

You can mix the different NICs and configure it with the 1 GB nocs acting as standby for the 10 GB nic -

then, will the 10G NIC run at 1G speed instead of 10G?

No, every link has its own speed and by putting the 1Gb in the Standby position under Teaming it will only be used if the10Gb fails.
