I have checked the HP vmotion document and the Vmware doc. The 5400 seems to be missing even though it is on the HCL.
Will I be able to v-Motion between these two platforms?

If you look at table 2 here - http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/solutions/vmotion_compatiblity_matix.pdf you'll see that you'll get a CPU compatibility error. You'll have to try a CPU mask - http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1993 / http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1991.
