I would like to hear from people who have setup a 3rd party VI monitoring solution (e.g. nWorks MP for OM 2007 etc).
What other products are there out there that can monitor the health of hosts, guests and the VI in general?
Do these tools do what you want, are they worth the cost and effort to implement? Any other feedback appreciated. I'm being asked to justify the use of these tools.
Cheers
Jon
We use Nagios, and cant complain about the cost of course.
It is a bit of effort to set up, and somewhat unix centric, but for our environment thats perfect.

Hello,
I have set up on my machines Munin, Nagios, and HPSIM. Each have their strengths and weaknesses. Customers have used OpenManage, MOM, to name a few.
What you get out of it depends entirely on what you want to monitor. Performance? State? etc.

3rd party monitoring tools come with commercial and free and depends on what specific features you're looking for. Here is a list of all 3rd party software specific for VMware, and it's very good list and browse through it and find which one you like the most, and test trial it before buying it. I couldn't suggest anything until I know which services or features you want since Edward has listed above.
