VRanger with VCB?

I'm planning a vRanger installation and have a few questions.

Initially I was hopeing to put vRanger on the VCentre server but apparently you can only do this if you don't install it in conjunction with VCB.

Can anyone give some pros/cons of Vranger + VCB v's Vranger.

What functionality do I gain etc.

My setup is 2xESX hosts both FC connected + VCentre that is also on the fabric.

Any help/comments appreciated.

If you integrate Vranger with VCB you will add compression of the backed up files (VCB do not compress, vRanger does it)

Moreover you will leverage on lan free backup (given by VCB).

One of the best pro of using vRanger is the easy way to do restore (that's quicker that with VCB only solution that implies the usage of vmware converter)

VCB is for backup only, you can not restore VM via VCB. VCB backups VM, VMware Convertor restores from backup.

With VCB integration you loose the ability to do differential backup of the VMs images

It works.

There is a GUI, so no scripting (tasks are scheduled scripts however).

Compression is possible, and it happens in memory before it hits disk meaning you need less "staging" disk space.

Differential support.

Recovery is simple, also flexible for other use cases (quasi lab environments).
