VMware Capacity Planner - Exception Systems

Hi,

I have been running VMware Capacity Planner (v2.7.1 Build 35051) against 7 standard Windows based servers all running a version of W2K3. The data gathering works just fine though when I go to generate a report 5 of the 7 servers show as being 'Exception Systems'. After studying the report it is not obvious why they have been cateogrised as being an 'exception' as the CPU, memory, disk and NIC traffic is all comparible to the others (3) that were considered ok to be virtualized.

I have modified the 'Hardware Selection' in the 'Edit Report Settings' though irrelevant of how much resource I give a potential ESX host server these 5 servers still remain 'Exception Systems'. There are no error messages and the online help offers no information as to what may be causing this. Are there any other criteria that I am not taking into account which may be causing these physical servers to remain an 'Exception'.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Can you check your performance summary page under the Performance tab in the dashboard for your assesment. Can you post that page here?

1,2,3 and 8....do they happen to be your exception systems??

Only 2 of the 5 'Exceptions' were in the list of the last screen shot.

I have just re-run the report and this time (not sure why) - it has included the following section (see attached image) that explains why each system was excluded. I'm sure that section of the report wasn't in there when I first logged this request - doh!

So it looks like a disk paging issue that exceeds the proposed target ESX host.

The detailed report always contains in-depth information about the assesment.

True, but for some reason the detailed report I ran the other day didn't have that section for some reason. Or I could be going mad - always a possibility.

the default scenarios have the page files set to 200 ( a real pain) if you create a new scenario and change the setting to 10,000 (VMware best practice, don't ask me why if it is best practice why the default is 200!) and run the scenario
