SAS and SATA controllers are supported but its fairly limited as far as SATA specific controllers that are on the HCL. Many SAS controllers also support SATA drives. Make sure you check the compatibility lists. http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

Hello,

Not really sure what you mean by 'VMware Partition'.

But there are really 4 basic partition types in use. They are types Linux (83), Linux Swap (82), vmkcore (fc), and VMFS (fb). There will often be many Linux partitions, 1 Linux Swap, 1 vmkcore, and at least 1 VMFS. vmkcore and VMFS should exist only on SCSI, SAS, and SATA. The Linux or Linux Swap partitions can exist anywhere.
