VM utilisation of physical resources

Hi all,

I know about time slicing of cpu resources when a physical server is busy but what happens when it is not..... If I have a 2 cpu (quad core) server providing say 24GHz (8x3GHz per core) of cpu resource and I have a VM with 2vcpu's allocated. If the esx server is not busy and all 24GHz of the physical cpu resources are available will my VM get the performance benefits of 24GHz or only 6GHz? If it is 24GHz does anyone have this feature in document form anywwhere?

Thanks in advance,

No. a vCPU always maps a pCPU. So in this case a 2-vCPU vm cannot use more than two physical cores.

6 (2x3) for sure. The 2cpu VM is put onto the best available 2 physical CPUs but the best it can get out of each is 3GHz.

Cheers, Andy.
