VCB + BAB backup VMs on storage

hi all

i need to make design to backup some vms running on storage

i have :

2 × ESX Standard running in VMware Cluster

1 × IBM DS4700 Express

2 × IBM SAN Switch

1 × IBM FC Tape Library

1 × BAB 11.5 server

all machines and storage are connected thru FC

i thought to install vcb on BAB server on protect all machine

i want to know if i make like in attaced doc , will backup data off vms go thru FC

I'm not sure what "BAB 11.5 is, but maybe I can help with the design because it really centers around VCB.The VCB Proxy works most efficiently if it is a dedicated physical W2K3 server. It should have the VCB framework installed. For the best efficiency, it should be a backup media server (This is a NetBackup term - it means it writes directly to tape). The tape drives can be shared over a SAN or directly attached. If your software is VCB "aware", follow the instruction for integration. With Commvault and Netbackup, you just need to install the framework and not configure it.

Forgot to mention...The VCB Proxy also needs access to the VMFS LUNs and RDM LUNs that are to be backed up.

BAB is Brightstor Arcserve Backup and it can integrate with VCB ( vcb must be installed on BAB server )

BAB and VCB server can access all LUNS since its connected to both san switch

my doubt is when i add vms thru vcb i must use IP so ethernet connection

after that will backup go over FC ?

every peace of system is connected by FC ( tape library also )

Yes. Is what happens is the ipaddress or vmname will be passed to the VC or ESX server over the network to tell it to quiesce and snap. Then the vmdk will be mounted or exported over the SAN for backup.Once complete, the server is informed to commit and delete the snap.
