I'm looking for a SAN for a virtualization plan and the iSCSI and FC support for the 2540 caught my eye, means that I can use the cheaper iSCSI software initiator option but leaves the option for FC open later down the line.
The thing that puts me off is no official support for ESX (only checked 3.5 and 4) from Sun or VMware with this device. I've been burned by non supported hardware before, the 2510 looks good as an iSCSI option but isn't on the ESX 4.0 HCL yet, 2540 is on the HCL but this is a FC device. I looked at the cost of FC switches/HBAs (2 switches, 2 dual port HBAs per host) and I turned very pale. As I say, FC for future use
