Storage Suggestion for Devs/Backups/Templates

Hi everyone,

We also got a cheap NAS from Thecus that we're using primarily to store our vRanger images and our templates. It's running low on space now and I'm wondering what's a good alternative to replace the Thecus?

Anyone have any recommendation on any NetApp products or anything else that has NFS capabilities? We're not concerned about the storage as long as it has at least 2T. Budget is around $5,000 - $10,000.

Thanks for your time.

Hello,

You may also just want to use a cheap server with lots of disk or the ability to add lots of disk. Netapp is a great solution, but can get pricey just for backups..... I use a DL380G3 w/gobs of disk as my backup server.... Then add in a disk tray as needed plus tapes.... Seems to work very very well.

I've used a box running free NAS for NFS support for cheap low tier storage , but not in a production environment - the idea is for production is the same in principle , with a slightly more expensive server.

I tried contacting a NetApp rep that left me a voicemail...never heard back from them. Didn't know that they're pricey. Smiley Happy

I think I'll stick with FreeNAS on HP DL38x's then. I'm actually running FreeNAS at the moment for testing purposes only...seems to be fine.

Thanks for your inputs.
