Send a clone over 2 ESX Std on 2 sites.

Hi every body!

I have two sites linked by WAN distant of 1000 km (625miles).

On each sites one Proliant DL360 G5 with an ESX Standard for 2CPU, and a Virtual Center for each sites also.

3 W2K3 VM on the1st and main site are running on local disks. One of these VM is a bit critical (no more than 24h downlink afer a disaster).

On this critical VM, i'd like to automate the folowing process:

Each 24h (night time) make a clone of this VM and send it to the remote site by the WAN, and store it during 24h. This clone will be replaced by ann other every 24h, or incrementaly updated. If a disaster occurs, I'd like the recovery site to be abble to start this VM quickly.

Which tools will i need to proceed? Must I use a proxy VCB server? must I use one of my W2K3 VM to send the clone via Win SCP? What is the better solution? Have you ever encoutered this case?

Thank You!

Hello,

Any of the backup tools could assist with this. If you want pure replication look into vizioncore vReplicator or Veeam Backup. If you are looking at a backup tool, you will need to write a script that will take the now remotely backed up file and restore it into the hot site system.

Hi,

You might want to take a look at third party software like ESXpress or vRanger. I think the free edition of ESXpress can help you to establish what you want.
