HP Canned this box architecture a year or two back and its now come back from the dead! It makes sense that new versions of ESX support the cores and rams.

As for HP's "blade everything" mantra, the company still plays that tune, but as Simpson succinctly noted, "while blades work well for some things, if you are looking for really high consolidation rates as you virtualize workloads, you really can't beat a honking big box."

Nice quote: "honking big box"... it's an industry term Smiley Happy

That's quite a beefy server, wonder what the price tag is on it.

btw, Ken is at HP no longer, he's had the '@hp.com' surgically removed from his forum name.

Being a geek, I wanna see under the hood. Must be using CPU trays?

Problem with making a big honking box like that is that thats one hell of a servers that go down should a HA event trigger.

Unless of course you only have 4 vCPU monsters running, then you've probably only got 8 of them....

Price starts with 17000 Dollar for minimum configuration

The HP785 is 7U Server. The Sun X4600 is a 4 U Server.

Hey Massimio...I can't take credit for breaking searchservervirtualization's site - it just seems to be fubar'ed today, no matter how you get there!
