SAN traffic configuration

I will have 2 HP DL380 servers running VMWARE that will be attached to our LAN. Then we will have the 2 servers connect each to their own HP Procurve switches with will then attach to a Hitatch AMS 2100 SAN.

I want the ISCSI SAN traffic to be seperate from the LAN which is why we are going to use the HP procure switches. Should the IP address that I assign to each ISCSI NIC on the servers and the SAN be on different subnets from eachother for each HP procurve switch or should they all be on the same subnet?

You can only create one VMkernel portgroup per Subnet, you only need VMkernel portgroup for Vmotion or/and ISCSI.

For best practice and performance you should have all in differents subnets.

iscsi traffic would flow through the vmkernal port group on a vswitch.

I would suggest to segment a different VLAN/Network for iscsi traffic. This is to be done for performance and security reasons.

The vmkernal port group for iscsi traffic on both servers should be assigned IP from the network being used for iscsi traffic.

Hope this helps!!
