Replication of iSCSI SAN with VMware

Hi

We are installing a new Vmware environment V3 Enterprise Edition and will be using either IBM or HP iSCSI SAN storage approx 3TB.(unless there is a much better option!?)

We need to have identical storage in SITE A and B with the data replicated for DR.

The sites have a good link 1GB so no issues there with bandwidth.

I am not sure if we need to install/purchase any extra IBM or HP Tools to manage the replication of data for us or if VMware can deal with this?

We then also need to move some of the data to Tape which we may be looking to use Veeam to manage this.

Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated if you have experience doing this and can offer some pointers.

Thanks

Each storage vendor should come with their own replication tool neither built-in or pay for them seperately you have to confirm with your vendor. In order to have a complete DR solution with VMware Infrastructure, you should take a look at VMware Site Recovery Manager, these components will be require for both Site A & Site B fully functional ESX 3.5 environment as well as storage. You will have to use Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) from storage vendor so it can replicate correctly. There is a DR/BC Book on www.vmware.com that is very well written. For backup solution, you can use VCB integrated with existing Backup Exec, Commvault, etc...nicely or use Veeam or Vizioncore Ranger of your choice.

Stefan is correct - VMware does not handle SAN replication - it will be the SAN manufacturer who you will want to manage the SAN replication
