RDM mapping files on an VMFS: sizing and advice needed.

I am currently designing a Vmotion HA environment for a customer. Due to possible migration to physical machines and the use of MS clustering we have selected RDM as disks. Snapshots and backups are done using the SAN.

My question is how small can I make the VMFS lun? I need to store around 10 mapping files so I was thinking of something in the line of 1 Gb.

Anyhelp/hints would be great.

Hi,

RDM files are very small files, we have 15 RDMs files which is 7 mo of space used onto a 1 gig VMFS volumes.

I did not see rules of thumb about what VMFS size is required to store RDM files.

I think that hundred megs will to the job, but we choose 1 gig to be more readable from our statistic reports.

Thank you

Dominic
