Problem with VM shut down immediately even with UPS during power tripp !

HI All,

There is a problem occurs on VMware servers when power tripp happens. Some of the servers in the VMware enviroment suddenly become hanged or shutdown without any reason. There is no notification appear and user not able to access the servers at all. The duration of the power tripp is usually less than an hour or shorter. The server rack has already been installed a UPS that is capable to withstand up to a few hours without any power. Most of the servers are places in the production site.

Is there any possble reason of causing the issue to occur? What could be the root cause of the issue? There are no powerchute or APC installed inside the VMware servers. I would think that there could be no issue with the VMserver bute something else causing it. This problem needed to be resolved as soon as possible.

By VMware Servers do you mean VMware vSphere or ESX hosts? or do you mean VMware Server? They are two different products and each have unique concerns. However, this sounds like ESX... What version of ESX is in use?

If a power tripp is causing VMs to shutdown it sounds like not all critical components are on a UPS such as Storage, switches, etc. If you are using HA and the switches are not properly protected you could have an issue with premature shutdowns once HA heartbeat is lost for too long.... Or you could have lost access to your storage device for too long... But it sounds like something is not protected by a UPS that should be.
