Need a low cost SAN solution for home lab practice.

I currently have 2 ESX servers and one iSCSI Linux server. I am getting ready to embark on the VI3 study and obtain my VCP cert. I think my home lab setup is near complete but I really want to understand true SAN environments for later when I am dealing with companies that run these.

Any recommendations on a cheap SAN / Fibre setup I could get to gain experience on this platform?

Hit eBay for an MSA1000 or an ax150 - both entry level SANs that should meet your learning needs (and both can be had for not too much money...)

Have you thought about looking at Datacore and the Software Sans they have? Left hand also as well as IPFalcon Store

How about Workstation 6.0 and ESX and and iSCSI VM? Less power; put it on a dual core workstation/laptop with 4GB RAM. More than you will need to pass the VCP exam.

Here are a couple of links to get you going:
