MSA2000 connected to ESX -- Anyone using it yet?

I see where the HP MSA 2000 is replacing the MSA 1000. The problem is the MSA 2000 is not yet on the compatibility list.

I was told by CDW that it should be by the end of the year, but I'm wondering if anyone is already using one connected to a ESX server.

Thanks,

Jon

AFAIK, the MSA 2000 was just released. Anyone using it would have to be a 'special' customer who got early access. I'm with you and assume that it should be fine.

HP has a great track record in getting their stuff certified for ESX. I have customers using the EVA8100 with ESX 3.0.x and I don't believe those have made the HCL just yet, either. I'm waiting to see the EVA 4400 on the list as well -- they're all pretty much the same controllers, though, so I don't see a problem there.

Interestingly, 3.5 is listed as 'supported' in HP's documentation for the MSA 2000... on page 9:

The MSA2000fc and the EVA4400 are now supported with ESX 3.5.0

I will be installing MSA2012fc for a customer (green field setup) next week with 2 DL360 servers, VC and ENT licenses. Will come back and let you know the outcome. I will include some IO Meter results which im sure everyone wants to see from this box.

It depends on the MSA2000 model you are buying on if it is supported or not. The MSA2000 single controller and the MSA2000 dual controller are supported under VMware 3.5. The Dual Enhanced controller has not made it through certification yet.

Both the single controller and dual controller models use the MSA2012fc designation while the enhanced controller uses the HP StorageWorks 2012fc designation.

The enhanced controller uses the HP StorageWorks 2212fc designation. VMware is very specific on what models it supports.

I have been talking to HP about this and the word is that the MSA2212fc will be supported soon. If you prefer to be safe, then the non-enhanced controllers are the only supported ones at this time.

Hello,

Not on the Storage HCL then not compatible yet. It may work but the document is the final word on compatibility.

Yes, it is. You can't find it on the HCL, because the AJ790A is a package of several products:

- the AJ746A MSA2012i single controller array

- ProCurve Switch 1400-8G (J9077A)

- some cables

I had to check the HCL too -- the MSA2012i IS on the list but if memory serves me right, it wants the preferred active/active configuration.

BTW -- anyone who can point me to good guidelines on setting up an MSA2012i please PM me!! Just the setup per se, not deciding how many or how big the LUNs should be...

Thank you, Tom

it wants the preferred active/active configuration.

The latest ESX version recognizes it automatically.

Please check this if you are running an MSA2000fc:
